  1. The National Guard Association of Connecticut (NGACT) proudly announces the 2011 scholarship program. The following persons are eligible to apply for a scholarship:
    1. NGACT Members
    2. Unmarried sons and daughters or grandchildren of NGACT members
    3. Spouses of NGACT members
    4. Unmarried spouses and unmarried dependent sons and daughters or grandchildren of deceased NGACT members who were members in good standing at the time of their death
  2. Honorary, Associate and Corporate membership alone does not qualify any of the persons listed above for eligibility to apply for a scholarship.

  3. Scholarships are awarded in an amount based on available funds for the upcoming school year. Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at an accredited college, university, trade school or business school. Graduate students are not eligible for scholarships.

  4. Awards will be sent directly to the recipient with each check made payable to the recipient’s choice of school. To receive the awards, verifications are required to the effect that enrollment has commenced or will commence.

  5. Awards will be made on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and need. The scholarship committee will not make selections based on friendship, rank or grade of the applicant, applicant’s parents/grandparents or applicant’s spouse.

  6. All applications must include the following:
    1. A transcript of high school credits and a transcript of college credits for applicants already in institutions of higher learning
    2. A letter from the applicant with personal, specific facts as to their desire to continue their education and why financial assistance is required
    3. Two (2) letters of recommendation verifying the application and giving general information & personal traits that would make the applicant a desirable recipient. Letters should ideally come from a community leader, ministers, elected officials, etc.
    4. One (1) letter of academic reference from a principle, counselor, dean or professor
    5. Photocopy of NGACT membership card (parent, grandparent, spouse or yours, if you are a member)

  7. If the recipient does not complete the school term for which the scholarship is awarded, due to any cause other than sickness, physical injury or military deployment, the recipient will refund the award to the National Guard Association of Connecticut within sixty (60) days from the date enrollment was terminated.

  8. Send completed scholarship applications to: NGACT Scholarship Committee, NGACT, National Guard Armory, 360 Broad Street, Hartford, CT 06105-3795. Each application must contain all required documents as outlined in paragraph 6 above.  The scholarship committee will review applications for completeness prior to convening a board.
